Computer Lab Tips and Rules
If this computer turns off or loses power your work will be erased. Please save to email, floppy disk or jump drive often. Once power is lost your work is gone forever. Also these computers are set to turn off if left idle for 60 minutes, please don’t leave without saving your work to another place. If the computer seems slow or is acting strange save your work to a disk, email or jump drive and restart. This will reset and cleanout any bad programs or settings. Absolutely no food at computer work stations. Food and drink is permitted only at desks and areas where there are no computers. If you are eating or drinking at this computer you will be asked to leave and any hours will be erased for the entire day. This is an academic environment. Be respectful of others trying to study: please keep talking to a minimum, turn off cell phones and do not play music. Computer priority will be given to those working on academics. Printing is currently free, please help keep it that way by printing only what is necessary. Print sparingly and responsibly. Do not print the same document to several printers. Go get help first. |
Printing Help
- Print only one document at a time and know which printer you are printing to. - If print fails do not
reprint, go get help from
the IT
Consultant or a Lab Monitor. Always cancel failed print jobs (see
below). - Check to make sure there
are no failed
print jobs (if
there are you will see a printer icon with a red x on the bottom right
of the
screen by the clock). To cancel
a print job open the printer dialog by clicking on the printer icon
then right click on each print job and select cancel. - Make sure the computer is connected to the internet, if not go get help. - Avoid printing PDF, Power Point, or Word files with a lot of graphics (very large files can take up to 5 minutes per page). 100KB = Small file, 500KB = Medium file, 1MB = Large file, Over 3MB = Huge file - If you would like to learn more about printing options or need help see the IT Consultant or a Lab Monitor. |
